We’re recruiting for a Database Administrator on behalf of an online bingo company based in Sunderland.
This role is within their most important department as what they do underpins everything the company does.
The company
They’re a fast growing company based in a state-of-the-art office in Sunderland.
They once hosted the UK’s biggest bingo game which had 170,000 people playing at once with a prize fund of £250,000.
They’re currently based in six countries and they have 850 staff; 200 of which are in tech.
The team
You’ll work within their infrastructure team which is 9 in size.
You’ll be replacing someone who is due to retire.
They’ve been doing this job for the past 20 years so they’ll be able to provide you with a really thorough handover.
You’ll report into their Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer.
Hybrid working
You’ll work three days from the office and two from home.
You ‘ll work 37.5 hours a week with core hours of 10-4.
What you’ll be doing
- You'll be responsible for maintaining and supporting their key services, with a focus on automation where possible.
- You'll be responsible for ensuring that data is accurate and secure, and that the infrastructure and data is resilient and performant in all areas
- You'll manage large production data stores, including monitoring and maintenance, and enhancing existing database configurations, schemas, and queries
- You'll identify performance tuning of queries and bottlenecks in the databases and instances, and work to resolve and improve where appropriate.
- You'll research, trial, and implement enhancements to data stores supporting Continuous Delivery.

What they’re looking for
Must haves
Experience in database administration.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, an inquisitive mind, and excellent communication skills.
You should be able to articulate complex technical problems to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
Experience in either AWS, Azure, or Google technologies.
Experience with RDS, Redis and/or Aurora.
